Pro Mod racer John Strickland from Harrells NC and Radial vs. the World star Steve “Fast” Jackson from Evans GA took the big money at the 17th annual COMP Cams Shakedown Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park.

The event celebrating the third venue in 17 years after beginning at Englishtown Raceway Park before moving to Norwalk OH for the past few years, had a great turnout of the quickest 1/8 mile door slammers in the USA.  The event has nowhere to go but up as the racers and fans alike were wowed by the quality and hospitality of the VMP track and crew.

Strickland’s turbo powered GALOT ’69 Camaro beat the nitrous aided ’69 Camaro of Jay Cox from Smithfield NC in the finals of Pro Mod.  Strickland had the superior light and ran a 3.673 with a 0.008 RT to Cox’s better but later 3.666.

Jackson defeated his teammate and friend Marcus Birt in what was the quickest side-by-side race in Radial vs. the World history. Birt’s nitrous powered Corvette was a little too quick on the tree red lighting a 3.588 away while Jackson’s blown Camaro winning with a 3.594.

Outlaw 10.5 went to the blown GTO of Frankford DE racer Quick Nick Schroeder over the turbo ’04 Corvette of Woodbridge ON racer John Carinci as Carinci had a terrible RT losing with a quicker 3.845 @ 179.97 to Schroeder’s 3.941.

Townsend DE racer Ron Rhodes won X-275 in his ’68 Camaro over the ’92 Mustang of Charles Hull. Rhodes posted a 4.385 to Hull’s 5.477 in the win.

In Limited Drag Radial it was another hole shot victory as Jim Howe from Crossville TN put his ’68 Camaro in front of the ’96 Mustang of Andy Manson from Manassas VA with a 4.094 to Manson’s 4.082.

Top Sportsman was the largest class contested at the Shakedown with 50 cars entered. Saturday night’s  finals went down to the  ’00 Firebird of Terry Logan from Henrico VA and the ’06 Cobalt of Vonnie Mills from Kennedyville MD. Logan got of the line first with a super 0.002 light as Mills spun the tires and slowed to a 7.654 as Logan sprinted to the win with a 4.695 on a 4.69 dial.
