MID ATLANTIC .90 NATIONALS PREVIEW

A word from Mid Atlantic .90’s Rob Keister:

To say 2020 was a year for the record books would have been an understatement. With multiple cancelations on the NHRA National & Divisional event tour due to COVID-19, the year was one that most soon would want to forget.

Even with all the negativity that surrounded COVID-19, One of the bright spots that came out of the year and the cancelation of the NHRA Keystones Nationals was the re-birth of the .90 Nationals & Top Shootout. The event that was held at Numidia Dragway in 2012 & 2013 found new life at its new home of Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pa on a September weekend.

With the success of the 2020 event and seeing more and more sportsman type events pop-up for Stock. Super Stock & Competition Eliminator, Mid Atlantic .90 President Rob Keister jumped up to the plate again to offer the .90 Racers and Top Dragster & Sportsman Racers to give them a place to race with an expanded schedule of 3 days of racing for big money at days end. This event will move a few weeks ahead of the 2020 version and expand out to 3 days on August 27th to the 29th. With the sportsman racer as the #1 priority at this event, Keister has added a day of racing and activities on Saturday Night once racing is completed. Right now, this is the only big dollar sportsman race for the .90 cars on the schedule for 2021.

The race will kick off on Friday, August 27th at 9:30am with a warm-up race for all the .90 classes of Super Comp, Super Gas & Super Street to run separately for a nice purse to kick off the weekend. For Top Dragster & Sportsman racers we did not forget about you as we will have the popular TD vs. TS combo shootout in which the two classes will face off against each other. All classes will be a reasonable $100 entry and based on 50 cars we will pay out $2,500 to win. All the classes will be also having the option to run a track operated test & tune from 10am to 3:30pm for $55.00 but, you cannot be entered into the main event at the same time.

For those who need more testing Maple Grove will offer a Fast Friday Test Session for $25.00 and will run from 5pm to 10pm that night.

This year the Top Dragster & Sportsman classes will be part of the weekly Top Challenge Series that will consist of 6 races this year for points and a championship. On Saturday, Top Dragster & Sportsman along with the .90 classes will kick off at 9am with 2 qualifying shots and then the .90 cars will run the High-Roller Race which could pay out up to $4,500 to win based on 64 cars for a reasonably low $120 entry, Top & Top will have their own separate races that will take up to 48 cars for a $150 entry and $3,400 to win based on the 48 car entries. Once the dust has settled and the trophies and pictures are taken, all racers and family are invited over to the Maple Grove Pavilion for a Free Racers BBQ, Live Acoustic Band, Practice Tree Race, Beanbag Tournament and for the kids a Movie Night with the showing of Cars.

Sunday is the main event and where all the big cash is handed out. Racing will kick off at 9am sharp with 1 qualifier for all classes and then proceed into 1st round of the .90 Nationals and the Top Shootout. New for this year, any .90 racer who loses first round will have the opportunity to enter a consolation race for $75.00 to possibly win $1,400 based on 48 cars. The main event though will be where the money is at for the sportsman racers as for $200 for the .90 cars, based on 80 cars the winner will take home a cool $7,000 to win, In Top & Top for the 48-car qualified field and $250 entry the winner could pocket $4,500 to win.
