(Youngstown, Ohio) Coming off a World Championship season in 2018, Tom and Ryan Martino of Martino Motorsports will team up with long-time marketing partners NGK Spark Plugs and Salt Life to field a second entry driven by Tom Martino for NHRA and PDRA Top Sportsman competition in 2019.
“When we made the six-hour trip home from Indy after the PDRA Championship Awards Ceremony this past December, Ryan and I had a great conversation about the possibility of putting together a Top Sportsman version of the 1969 Dodge Dart GT that helped put Martino Motorsports on the map in the 1970s-1980s. That Monday we made a few calls, the response was overwhelming, and the rest was history. We can’t thank everyone involved enough for believing in this project”, states Tom Martino.
“It's been very difficult to keep this project under the radar the past couple of months, especially with my Dad involved. Being on the eve of our 2019 season opener and with the delivery taking place this week, we felt the timing was right for the official announcement. We hope to have the Dart to R&R Auto Body by next week for paint and should have it race ready for its debut in May”, adds Ryan Martino.
The Martinos’ nitrous injected entry will be tuned by Jerry Albert Racing and will feature a 665 c.i. engine combination designed exclusively by PAR Racing Engines. Joining NGK and Salt Life as marketing partners on this project will be Lucas Oil Products, Inc.; K&N Filters; Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels; the Haus Auto Group; Applied Racing Components (ARC); XS Power Batteries; Design Engineering Inc.; Strange Engineering; Fel-Pro Performance Gaskets; Rossler Transmissions; Victory 1 Performance; Meguiar’s; DJ Safety; Wiseco Pistons; High Octane Coffee; R&R Auto Body; and Pier Graphics.
“Most of this project was videoed from its inception for an upcoming YouTube V-Log series we put together this offseason titled ‘The Adventure Continues...’ Look for teaser clips this week on our official social media sources @MartinoMotorsports on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. Make sure you like, follow, and subscribe to catch all the action!” concludes Ryan.
“It will be a nice change of pace to see this Dart in the mix with the Camaro and Corvette bodies that dominate the majority of the Top Sportsman class. Ryan Kerchevall did an incredible job with this rendering by recreating the classic look of our Dart from the 1980s and adding a little modern flare. Fans will truly love this car when it hits the track, especially the Mopar enthusiasts! We look to run a good mix of NHRA and PDRA events throughout the season and hope to end up back on the main stage at the PDRA Championship Awards Ceremony in December with both of these cars!” concludes Tom.
